A 2012 review found that, overall, most of the randomized controlled trials done to date had "limited" (less than 20 patients each, or less than 1% of total patients) or "insufficient" (less than 2 patients each) statistical power to detect an effect of a low-carbohydrate, low-sodium diet on cardiovascular risk factors. Tests of the hypothesis that a low-carbohydrate diet would prevent coronary heart disease in at-risk patients are the design phase. "Patients at high cardiovascular risk should take a low-carbohydrate diet with respect to overall energy intake," stated Dr. Seidman. "But the type, amount and what is the best online pharmacy in canada duration of carbohydrate restriction should be individualized to suit the goals of patient." In 2011, a study of 10,000 patients with high blood pressure found that the high-carbohydrate, high-sodium Atkins diet led to more heart attacks and strokes than was the case with moderate-carbohydrate, low-sodium Ornish diet. Dr. Seidman acknowledged that "no one diet is the first choice for everyone." He explained that different doctors have preferences. And there are studies, including his own as well other research, which suggest that many other forms of low-carbohydrate dieting and weight loss have a positive effect on the heart and blood vessels. funny…

i took a dating quiz and it nailed the kind of man i would date:

Your Top Ten Match Traits, Ranked
1. Funny
2. Practical
3. Adventurous
4. Big-Hearted
5. Romantic
6. Intellectual
7. Shy
8. Conservative
9. Wealthy/Ambitious
10. Sensual

number 9 is the only one that doesn’t particularly fit, though the boy certainly *could* live a wealthy life well 😉

in other news, i love my friends.

ok, not so much news 🙂 but always worth reiterating!

awwwww….the music i walked down the aisle to is playing 🙂 i wonder if a day will ever come that this song won’t make my heart jump into my throat.

heaven is…

a day in the kitchen.

mixing, melting, stirring, whipping, pouring, baking, spreading, chopping, simmering, double-boiling.

🙂

today i used a gourmet magazine recipe to make chocolate peanut butter bars with hot chocolate sauce from scratch.

i love mixing bowls 🙂

and i *love*double-boiling things. watching ghirardelli chocolate melt into a pool of chocolate goo is so satisfying. i really need to get a double-broiler inset for my main pot.

i suddenly have an urge to chocolate coat….*everything* 🙂

chocolate-covered pretzels are my favorite chocolate-covered item to make.

i am guessing that chocolate coated (thin) candy canes would be very yummy too!

someday, i am going to have MyKitchen, in which i will tackle the *amazing* full-dinner extravaganzas in The Best of Gourmet : A Year of Celebrations

sooooooo interesting

i am watching the PBS Frontline episode called The Storm – overviewing the govt. response to Katrina and a very in-depth look at FEMA and disaster support from its beginnings to current day.

if i find a torrent/download of it, i will be sure to let anyone interested know.

its not a *want*…

i think it may be a *need*.

i have been battling the LCD purchase idea for quite some time.

and as you have seen, i have talked myself out of it many times.

but lately, i find i am leaning into my desk as i read and work, which is landing me less than a foot from my monitor, and the resulting eye strain is tough.

i really need to not be so close to the screen…or i need to make a conscious effort to SIT BACK 🙂

such a debate. i’m not willing to spend more than about $300/each and i would have to buy two.

tigerdirect.com is taunting me.

or i could just SIT BACK.

damn my boy for making it so hard to want to spend money 🙂

however, i am going to have to solve this eye straint hing one way or another…i’d like to see things over the next 50 years, rather than killing my eyes.

i’m a winner

so tonight, as i was making a fabulous vat of sketti, i – in all my grace – sliced my wrist on TheBigAssKnife while trying to crush garlic.

it was truly a special feat not many could accomplish.

(housegirl, please keep breathing – i’m fine!)

i calmly asked david to help me as i put pressure on my wrist, trying to figure out how great a job i had done.

after some water and cleaning, it was obvious it was about 1″ horizontal across the bendiest part of my wrist…moderately deep but not slicing any tendons or important bits.

very teen-angst suicidal 🙂

the boy temporarily bandaged me while he ran to walgreens, and i am now cleaned, butterfly-closured, and wrapped in a completely immobilizing gauze bandage to keep the natural motion of my wrist from opening the wound. i love having a husband who can take care of me 🙂

i promised my sister i would run my wound and my care thus far by thegypsy just to make sure i am being a good, smart girl 🙂 emt friends are handy!

i am more amused than concerned – and glad it wasn’t worse. its a miracle it didn’t happen sooner, but i will redouble my efforts to mind my sharp new knives more carefully.

luckily, i got yoga in before the incident 🙂 and i think i will pause the yoga initiative count until i have bendiness of wrist again.

Yoga Initiative 2005:

my sister made me think…

i remember a time in my life where my friends were, above all, the people who i spent my time with.

i had alot of time.

and it was nice to have a friend to whittle it away with.

and i find now, that that function of friendship is far less…of a priority for me.

of course, i spend time with my friends.

we have similar interests.

they like to do things i do.

they enjoy spending time in my space and vice versa.

but i have grown to value other aspects of friendship *so much more*.

friends who respect me and whom i hold in the same regard.

friends who encourage me and who appreciate my encouragement.

friends who smack me with reality when i am deluding myself, and can take it when i reciprocate.

friends who inspire me, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.

the people i call friends now are tangible representations of who i am and what i love.

they teach me humility, grace, strength, vulnerability, openmindedness, wisdom, and acceptance.

i don’t need my friends to be just like me. i don’t need playmates to occupy my every moment.

perhaps not everyone experienced the…empty, vapid plain of superficial friendships that i did. my sister, for example, has had amazing devoted friends who have been all these things to her for much of her life. but i really didn’t.

grownup friendship is an amazing thing.
